The 10th Padjadjaran English Competition (PEC) is now open for registration. This year marks a decade of excellence, ten years of celebrating language, creativity, and expression. PEC has grown into more than just a competition stage; it is a platform where young talents can explore ideas, share their voices, and challenge themselves in this inclusive space. This year, we brought Audre Lorde’s poem “A Litany of Survival” as the chosen theme of the competition, centered on the line “So It Is Better to Speak Remembering We Were Never Meant to Survive”. The theme was selected in recognition of literature as a form of resistance towards the forces that seek the marginalized.
Divided into five categories and two levels, PEC 2025 proudly returns with an exceptional panel of accomplished and professional judges with diverse backgrounds. Each judge brings extensive experience and insight to their respective fields, ensuring that every participant receives thoughtful evaluation and meaningful guidance. Beyond the competition itself, participants will also have the opportunity to gain constructive feedback from the judges, allowing them to refine their skills, broaden their perspectives, and take valuable lessons that extend beyond the stage.
This year, as part of our inspiring judges lineup, we have Joselito D. delos Reyes as one of the storytelling judges. He is a writer and a faculty member at the University of Santo Tomas Department of Literature, where he coordinates the creative writing program. Alongside him, we have Mark Spears, a fiction writer from Lexington, Kentucky, whose stories often explore the theme of family, memory, and place, and Angelo R. Sarge Lacuesta, an Award-Winning Fiction Writer and an essayist, as PEC’s short story writing category judges. Moving on to the next category, we have Nurul Hanifa Aprilia, a graduate of Universitas Padjadjaran with a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature and a master’s degree in Contemporary Literature, as one of our high school-level speech judges and also Juma Imamu, a faculty member in the Languages and Linguistics Department at St. Augustine University of Tanzania, who is currently pursuing his doctoral degree in the Literature Studies program at Universitas Padjadjaran, as one of the university-level essay writing judges. And there are more inspiring people to be introduced as the line-up of the 10th Padjadjaran English Competition judges.
This year’s registration period runs from October 3rd to November 7th, 2025, welcoming both high school and university students to participate in a diverse range of competitions, such as Speech, Storytelling, and Short Story Writing for the high school level, and Speech, Essay Writing, Poetry Reading & Writing, and Short Story Writing for the university level.
We also offer bundle prices for current active students at Universitas Padjadjaran. A group of three can register for IDR 600,000 in total (IDR 200,000 per person), while a group of five only costs IDR 900.000 in total (IDR 180.000 per person).
Additional information regarding competition guidelines, rules, and schedules is available in our linked Guidebook below, alongside the registration form for the competition.
Join us in a decade of voices, ideas, and stories that have shaped PEC into the dynamic and inspiring event it is today. Whether you aspire to move hearts with your words, tell a story that lingers, or craft ideas that resonate across borders, this is your stage. Speak. Create. Be heard.
